In January 2017, 40 cancer survivors and caregivers traveled to Africa to do mission work at the Kenyatta National Hospital and climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is the inspiring story of survivors who reached the summit.
In January of 2017, a team cancer survivors and caregivers led by Above + Beyond Cancer embarked on a Journey to Africa for a medical mission and the physical challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. While abroad, the team first stopped in Nairobi, Kenya at the Kenyatta National Hospital, they then flew to Tanzania to begin to Mind-Body-Spirit Journey of the climb. This is their story.
“On Jan. 12, just after sunrise, the entire team stood at the top of Kilimanjaro. The guides tell us that they have never seen a group with such a success rate. I get choked up just thinking about it. There is nothing that compares to being with a group that has come together around a cause and a higher purpose.” – Dr. Richard Deming
