Join ABOVE + BEYOND CANCER for a Yellow River State Forest Weekend Adventure
Experience the beauty of Yellow River State Forest with Above + Beyond Cancer. This two-night camping retreat will include guided hikes, yoga, meditation, a prayer flag ceremony, as well as time for solitude and connection.
In order to maximize the social distancing needed to prevent the spread of COVID-18, we are asking everyone to provide their own transportation to arrive at Yellow River State Forrest, near Harpers Ferry, Iowa, at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 18. Be sure to eat dinner along the way. This night we will set up camp, unwind with a yoga and meditation session, then enjoy time and snacks around the fire.
On Saturday, September 19, after early riser yoga and breakfast, we will hike a couple miles with the forest’s Naturalist. After a lunch break, we will discover more trails in Yellow River Forest. The evening will be capped-off with a prayer flag ceremony and a campfire dinner together.
Sunday morning will again start with yoga and breakfast and a short trip to get to Effigy Mounds where we will enjoy a guided hike. The mounds preserved here are considered sacred by many Americans, especially the Monument’s 20 culturally associated American Indian tribes. A visit offers opportunities to contemplate the meanings of the mounds and the people who built them.
Cost is $150 per camper. Social distancing measures will be implemented including providing your own transportation. Food will be self-prepared or pre-packaged. Campsites will be limited to six campers, with only two people (who are known to each other) per tent.
