The Benefits of Urban Pole Walking?
Have you heard the lowdown about Urban Pole Walking? Urban Pole Walking was touted by the New York Times as one of the five best exercises for aging adults. Above + Beyond Cancer and our class participants are learning it is a great mode for improving health for all adults.
If you like to walk, enjoy the outdoors, and be guided by an experienced instructor, then the Above + Beyond Cancer Urban Pole Walking class would be a good fit for you.
Urban Poling, known as nordic walking, is spreading in popularity throughout central Iowa. When we properly use Urban Poles while walking, we utilize 90% of our muscles, and increase our heart rate 20-40% more than walking without poles. Other benefits include; increased balance, improved posture, and an overall boost in endurance and confidence.
“My walking is stronger and endurance has greatly increased. The instructors are so friendly and offer great feedback,” said a current registrant.
Above + Beyond Cancer is a non-profit founded in 2011, with a mission to “elevate the mind, body, and spirit of patients, survivors, and caregivers throughout the cancer journey.” We offer this evidence-based medical program for cancer survivors and caregivers.
Each registrant completes a pre and post assessment to track progress and set goals. The program results are showing the difference an exercise like this can have on our overall health.
Other participants said:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the Urban Pole Walking class through Above + Beyond Cancer. We work on the proper way to use our poles to get the best workout for our bodies.”
“I would highly recommend pole walking to anyone who wants to be more active. I have enjoyed it so much I invested in my own set of poles. I walk by myself or with a group. The class is especially enjoyable. I have met new people and the coaches are great. The instructors are upbeat and positive. You feel more secure using the poles, gaining support if you stumble. The upper body workout is an added bonus. Pole walking is great exercise!”
